The four occupants were removed from the car and two have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The incident happened shortly before 3am and involved one car – a blue BMW 1 series – which had left the A10 before catching fire.

Sergeant Sam Cordingley, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Did you see the collision or the events leading up to it?

“I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information or dash cam footage to get in touch so we can get a better understanding of the incident.

Officers are appealing for information and witnesses following a serious collision in Chesunt today (Saturday 14 September).

“If you can help, please call the non-emergency number 101 or email me at quoting ISR 120 of September 14.”
