Don’t forget this great opportunity of a free guided walk taking place next Saturday. The Doodlebug bomb landed and exploded in Goffs Lane, 75 years to this date, causing destruction and the loss of 5 lives. This single weapon caused the largest loss of civilians in Goffs Oak during WW2. Mick Coe, our local historian will be telling the story which includes the background of the many of the houses (down to Burton Lane) that existed at the time of the bombing.
This is for the young and older – come along and brush up on your local history. After the walk, there is a display of relevant information in our Community Library. You may even get a cup of tea!
As a child, ( now 81 ) the ‘Bombed ‘ site was a good playground. The main attraction was the wonderful Mulberry tree, which some how survived the blast.
