A member of the Northaw And Cuffley Residents Association picked up on a credit card scam in Cuffley and is concerned that others may fall victim to it too. The member reported the following:
“My neighbour on Tolmers Road has been the victim of a credit card scam. The fraudsters used her name and address to order 9 credit cards and pin numbers. They then loitered on the road waiting for the post to arrive so the cards could be intercepted. To avoid this problem check that
- any external post box is designed to prevent theft. If you can get mail out if your postbox without opening it, then so can anyone else who wants to take your mail
- keep gates shut to deter unwanted visitors
- consider using a safe for bank cards / cheque books etc.”
Watch out for suspicious behaviour on your and your neighbours’ doorsteps!
