We’re looking for people to become full-time firefighters with Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
There’s more to being a firefighter than you might think. You’ll respond to emergencies, from fire and traffic collisions, to floods and chemical spills, as well as all sorts of rescues.
But just as importantly, you’ll carry out home safety visits with vulnerable residents, go into schools to educate children on fire safety, promote safety messages in the community and be a role model for young people on schemes like the Duke of Edinburgh awards and Prince’s Trust.
You’ll need to be physically fit and mentally tough, but we also need people who can act with initiative, solve problems, communicate well and be calm under pressure.
It’s a career where you get to work as part of a close and supportive team, making a real difference to your community, and where no two days are the same.
We want to make sure our fire and rescue service represents the community we serve, so whatever your background and whatever you’re doing at the moment, if you’re looking for an exciting, active and varied career visit our website at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/beafirefighter and find out more about what we’re looking for and how to apply.
Want to know more about the job?
We’ll be running a Facebook Live Q&A session with serving firefighters at 7:30pm on Monday 9 July. This will be an opportunity to hear about what we’re looking for and to ask questions about the job and the recruitment process.
You can come and meet our firefighters at a number of community events during July. See our website for details.
The role of the firefighter requires a certain level of physical fitness, which is tested during the selection process.
We’ve produced a video to show what we’re looking for and how you can make sure you’re fit enough.
We will be running a number of informal fitness sessions for people who aren’t sure whether they meet the requirements.
Our fitness advisors will assess your current fitness and advise on what you need to do to meet the standards we require.
Once you have registered an interest you’ll be invited to book on to a fitness session.
